The mission of Moving With The Military is to turn spaces into sanctuaries, houses into homes. Maria Reed and Caliber Home Loans are dedicated to seeking out ways to make an impact on the military community. The makeover completed in March of 2021 is no exception.
“Home is so difficult to define for military families. Is it the places we came from, the places we are currently at, the four walls we live in or the things that we carry with us as the memories of our life? To a military family home means all of that and so much more,” Reed said.
Julie Moser is an Army spouse, nonprofit CEO, and mother. She’s also a cancer survivor who was just had a relapse of her breast cancer. “Julie is so strong and always puts others needs before her own. She is a believer in the impossible and a compassionate soul,” Reed said. When Moser confided in Reed about the possibility of a relapse it made her stomach drop, she said. “That just sank into my core because as a military spouse, we are sort of the CEO of the home and when our service member is gone and deployed we never think about something happening to us.”
Managing her nonprofit and household of six while undergoing surgeries and cancer treatments meant her office had seen better days. Moser had always been known to do whatever it took to serve the cancer patients involved with Pink Warrior Angels of Texas, which meant leaving her own needs on the back burner. Reed saw an opportunity to bring smiles to a friend and make a difference, all at the same time.
Reed said this makeover was different. For one, she got the entire country involved in making decisions for Moser’s new office. “Having America get involved in the processes of doing this special makeover was incredible. Everyone was excited to be a part of the selection process and helping make it happen,” she explained. The result was stunning.
“Home is the place we make memories, reintegrate with our service member after deployments, our space for healing, growing, building a sense of self,” Reed explained. “Every two to three years we get to uproot everything move to a new city or country and start all over again. Home has so many meanings and for military families it’s crucial to be a space of positivity and happiness.”
When Reed was making the plans to design Moser’s new office, she had a few ideas. It was important to create a functional space that was organized and could make things simpler. But it also had to be beautiful and bring that vital happiness every time Moser walked inside.
First military spouse and veteran volunteers cleared the space completely and painted the walls a soft and warm grey. Next came the gorgeous floral wallpaper, new lighting and brand-new cabinetry. Wood slats attached to the walls were built to hold beautiful green plants. The finished room was simply breathtaking.
After being surprised with her office makeover, Caliber Home Loans presented Moser with a check for $2,500 made out to her nonprofit. Pink Warrior Angels of Texas. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
The partnership between Moving With The Military and Caliber Home Loans is at its core a deep commitment to serve those who serve. One home makeover at a time.
