The last two months of winter were spent in on-the-ground community service for the folks in the Military Lending division of Caliber Home Loans. It was also a red-hot month of deep focus on education for not only our nation’s military families but industry partners.

The team kicked off February strong with a makeover for a dual Army veteran family in East Texas who’d walked through a challenging cancer diagnosis. Moving with the Military (MWTM) filmed the volunteer-led makeover, with the design and production hosted by Army spouse and MWTM CEO Maria Reed. It was a powerful experience for all involved and thoroughly demonstrated the vital importance of the military community coming together in times of need.

Black Rifle Coffee may be known for their wild one-liners and extraordinarily popular coffee – but the veteran-owned company is all in on hiring veterans and military spouses, too. The San Antonio location was featured on an episode of MWTM and nominated one of its veteran employees to receive a makeover from the design show. There may have been coffee-pong played and other shenanigans – but you’ll have to wait until the episode airs to see all the fun.

After that the team headed to Dallas – this time to support a makeover for a veteran Air Force flight medic and her son, who’d been diagnosed with Autism. The CHL volunteers supported the MWTM makeover, assisting in not only creating a beautiful bedroom sanctuary for the veteran but a sensory room for her son, too. The reveal was extraordinary and there were no dry eyes around.

As the February cold led into a chilly March, the team was all in to support a retired Green Beret and surprise him with an office makeover. Though he gave 21 years of his life to serving this country – it was all in boxes. Reed fixed that by creating jaw-dropping displays and partnering with a Navy veteran company to create an unbelievable built-in to showcase it all.

Caliber Home Loans was also the co-title sponsor of a very special project this winter. On August 26, 2021, thirteen American service members lost their lives at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan when a terrorist detonated a bomb. Twelve of them were attached to the 2nd Battalion 1st Marines of Camp Pendleton. In partnership with the Inspire Up Foundation and the Robert Irvine Foundation, the team was able to support feeding the entire unit – over 950 Marines. Though the meal and event cannot replace what was lost, the moments of joy and the healing comradery were on display, full force.

Education was a priority again this month with more than 700 military, veteran, and/or industry professionals receiving VA home loan education with an additional 5,000+ receiving education through virtual steaming platforms. With COVID restrictions being lifted every day the team now has the opportunity to meet in person and educate Green Berets and SEALS through our partnership with the Green Beret Foundation and the UDT SEAL Foundation.

The team hosted two in person events with the association of real estate professionals VAREP to discuss the market and outlook for our military and veteran buyers in 2022 and how we can better serve them and help them achieve the American Dream of Homeownership.

Bryan Bergjans was welcomed onto the St. Louis Public Radio to discuss the VA Home Loan benefit. It was a moving episode and really delved deep into the struggles of the homeownership process for military families.

Spring has sprung and the Military Lending team is all in on creating opportunities for education, community engagement and bridging the divide between the civilian and military populations. It’s more than a mortgage, it’s a promise to lead by example and do the right thing while growing opportunities for a community that gives their all for this country. One day at a time.
