Army spouse Maria Reed has been telling the stories of America’s servicemembers and their families while surprising them with home makeovers for five years. The Military Lending team at Caliber Home Loans is proud to enter into its third year of being the title sponsor for her show, Moving with the Military (MWTM).

Despite all the years she’s been doing this, Reed is still just as inspired as when she began. “After almost 20 years as an active Army military spouse, I’ve lived and witnessed many of the struggles that military families go through. I get it,” she explained. “I wanted to make an impact in their lives and let them know that they matter, they are seen and heard.”

It’s that philosophy which led the CHL to approach Reed about being a part of the show. One of the priorities for the team was meaningful community engagement, with boots on the ground – meaning volunteers from the local offices can join in on the impact.

“We kicked off 2022 with a home office/dining room makeover. With every PCS, military families need to navigate new cities, new duty stations and new spaces. Oftentimes those new spaces need to be multifunctional, like this space at 29 Palms. We chose this family because they are always pouring back into the youth of their community and putting themselves last,” Reed said. “With four children of their own, their desire to gather around a dinner table that they didn’t have in order to connect as a family really touched my heart. Military families don’t always have the luxury to sit around the table together, so when we are able we need to make the most of it.”

Everyone showed up with sleeves rolled up ready to go and the family was delighted with the results. “I love so many different aspects of MWTM, like building community and relationships with military families around the world for example. Even though we may be from different branches of service we are all in this together,” Reed shared.

She also indicated how important and wonderful it’s been for her to be a part of such a diverse community. “We are from such different backgrounds and ethnicities. I so enjoy the cultural melting pot that we are. It’s really important to share these stories and give America a glimpse of what a military family looks like,” Reed said.

Not only is this an inspiration for her but getting the opportunity to really dig in and figure out which design will work best for the family is a joy for her, too.

Throughout the years MWTM has worked hard to bridge the divide between civilians and the military community. “The best way we can say thank you is by being there. Really being there. Military families are more than just Veterans Day and Military May. Military families are in it all year long and should be recognized all year long,” Reed implored.

As for her goals for the newest partnership with CHL for 2022, the sky is the limit. “Caliber Home Loans gets it. They believe in the mission to support military families,” Reed said. “We hope to grow bigger with Caliber, do entire home makeovers and give back even more to the community the gives us so much.”
