The New Year was off to a fast and exciting start for the Military Lending Team. And a cold one, at that.

In Anchorage, Alaska – the VAREP PCS Know Your Orders class was presented to industry professionals serving our active-military service members to better equip them with navigating the challenges associated with moving.

Through the strategic partnership with the UDT SEAL Association, the Wellness for Life seminar (powered by Caliber Home Loans) was presented to over 5,000 Navy SEALs. There they learned about the myths of the VA Home Loan benefit and their entitlement to the revolutionary benefit thanks to their sacrifice and service to this nation.

Education was a high priority this month with another 300 industry professionals, military, and veteran’s consumers receiving presentations on the VA Home Loan benefit and why it’s such an important benefit to utilize.

The Military Lending Team was also present and invited to the 2022 SHOT Show, held in Las Vegas. Though the show is primarily focused on the hunting and outdoors community, it was a hub for the military and veteran population, making it an excellent networking event. Connections were made with AUSA members, media organizations and opportunities to expand educational efforts around the VA Home Loan.

While in Vegas, the team was a premier sponsor for the Green Beret Foundation Fourth Annual Reunion. It was the first in-person event since the 2019 event, as the COVID-19 pandemic caused the 2020 reunion to be canceled. There the team spent time with the leadership of GBF, created connections with new opportunities for community engagement and tapped into unique educational possibilities.

When the team talks about community engagement, it’s more than writing a check or volunteering time. It’s the all-in true boots-on-the-ground approach.

After receiving a heart wrenching plea from a Desert Storm veteran spouse, everyone was on deck to help. The family of eight was evicted on Veterans Day of 2021 after the veteran lost his business due to the pandemic. Though they had received initial help from local churches, the local governmental housing authority was slow to move and assist them.

Within hours of the email from the spouse, the family was set to be homeless and on the streets. The team jumped into action covering the hotel bill through partnerships and military community generosity. The family received financial support for food, essentials and gas to continue bringing their children to school without issue. The quick work allowed them the time they needed to get extended support, which began on February 1 and will carry them through May 1 when they should receive their HUDVASH voucher from the housing authority.

While this was occurring, other members of the team were supporting the Leon family with a makeover. This dual veteran family was the recipient of a brand-new bedroom thanks to the partnership with Moving with The Military.

We’re more than a mortgage company. We are a team of individuals dedicated to truly honoring those who serve by digging into provide education, engagement and stand in the gap when they are in need. January was another month of living and breathing that ethos and the team looks forward to bringing it to the next eleven months of 2022.
