Caliber’s Learning Team Volunteers to Help Homeless Veterans in Dallas

Caliber Home Loans continues to support our military and military families with more than just VA loans. We are committed donating our time, talents, and funds to serving those that have given so much.

As an example of this commitment, Caliber’s Learning Team decided to forgo a typical team building activity. Instead, they opted to invest their time in others. Helping those that had served in our military, the team eagerly sorted warm clothes for homeless veterans at the Veterans Resource Center (‘VRC’) in Dallas, Texas. The VRC had just concluded a successful clothing drive and needed help preparing the clothes for distribution.

"We appreciate the brave men and women who have served our country, so it was the very least we could do. Our team was just grateful to have the chance to support veterans in any way we could,” shared Adam Costakes, Assistant Vice President of Learning, when asked why the team chose to volunteer with the VRC.

The VRC is a national organization providing support services to very low-income Veteran families living in or transitioning to permanent housing. Eligible Veterans and their families receive outreach assistance and case management.  The group also helps these families in obtaining VA and other benefits. Much of the focus is on those benefits that contribute to housing stability and community integration. By connecting these individuals with different agencies and resources, the group serves as a vital bridge to self-sufficiency.

Since opening in September 2012, the Dallas location of the VRC has served over 45,000 Veterans. The center is managed by Homeless Veteran Services of Dallas (HVSD), a non-profit organization established in 2004. HVSD’s primary goal is to help alleviate the problem of homelessness among veterans and their families.

The homeless Veteran population in North Texas has slightly decreased based on the targeted efforts of groups like the HVSD according to the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance.  However, the problem has not yet been eradicated.  Additional help is needed.
